Tragic fire burns 23 family’s shacks in Guarari
Early Monday morning at 4 am, a fire broke out in the center of some little shacks in Guararì. As many of you know, we have been working with this population for years. None of our families were affected directly, but many are friends or family of our group. We are beginning to collect food bags for the families and clothes, tin roofing, etc. for those affected. Twenty three children have lost everything, so we are checking to see how many will need new uniforms and school supplies. Will write more next month with updates so keep them in your prayers.  If you would like to help, please use the button below.
We had the privilege of having a mission team come to help us with a community project and work with many of the kids from this very vulnerable community. We were asked to resurface the small basketball court they have and also change the fence as most of it was rusted away or stolen. It is not easy to pour cement with a team so I had asked the community to help us. Weeks before the team arrived, they had begun to pour the new floor. When the team arrived, they had done 3/4 of the court and left the last part for us. When one of the girls saw the piles of rock, sand and bags of cement, she commented, “where is the cement truck?” and another asked “where are the bags of ready mix like they get from Home Depot?”  Little did they know that it took 7 wheelbarrows of sand, 5 of rock and 2 bags of cement. As they started to mix it all, they realized that they had a whole new set of muscles discovered that evening.
Obviously, cement mixing was not the highlight of their trip. The kids are why they keep coming back! They even remembered some of the kid`s names from last year. We had the privilege of taking 60 kids to camp with the group and they loved it. Our kids had a 2-week vacation and none of them went anywhere as no money was available for this activity. We were able totake them Roblealto as we have been working on the Latin America Mission Lodge for many years. We were able to see the finished product as the staff of Roblealto has really tried to finish the building. The building looks great!  CEDCAS has taken many mission teams up there to help build it. TODAY, it is completed and a tribute to all of the missionaries who worked with the Latin America Mission. A big thank you to many of you who have helped make this tribute possible.
The mission team had many opportunities to play with the kids but most important, was about sharing God’s love and planting the seeds. There were so many expressions of love to these kids. A group of teen girls walked over in the pouring rain just to spend more time with the team. God gave us 3 perfectly dry days in the middle of the rainy season, but then it rain really hard when they visited the La Paz Water falls as their cultural day. God is good and the cement was poured on these dry days.

These past 2 weeks have been so much fun for me.  Beca moved in with me and the 2 girls as Chelo had a work trip to South Africa. I love when he does this as I get to see the girls 24/7. They love to come to my room at 6 am to scare me with a BOOO to wake me.
We have had 2 teams back-to-back and the girls were able to do some of the activities with them. Beca is one of the official translators so she could also take Cami to the kid`s club.  Cami just started first grade and Lucy is going 3 mornings a week to pre-kinder. They are both excited with their new adventure.  Check out our new Instagram button below.
